How do I set up QuickPrint preferences?

These preferences tell QuickPrint how to behave when creating your file. Each setting in the preferences window defines how QuickPrint will operate. Definitions of each of the settings are found below. Once you have successfully launched QuickPrint go to File > Preferences

You will get a window with three tabs. Each tab handles a different area of the QuickPrint application.

Tab 1 - General

Unit of measurement:
Defines what unit of measurement will be used on export. Choose which unit applies to your workflow.

Maximum enlargement/reduction:
Defines how much the image can be reduced so that it fits in with the specifications. If your file is a bit too big for the booked space, QuickPrint will shrink it according to the percentage you set at this point. We recommend you leave these at the default settings.

Maximum float:
Defines how much the ad will be allowed to float if it is smaller than the booked size, or how much space can be left on either side.

Maximum permissible non-proportional scaling:
Defines how much the ad can be non proportionally scaled. If your file isn’t the same proportions as your booked space it can be scaled to fit. For smaller ads it is advised that this is set to zero as the smaller the file, the more obvious is disproportionate scaling.

Collect for Output:
Leave it ticked on.

Colour Profiles:
This option will be available in the future. If set by the selected publishers these can be downloaded upon synchronisation for those who wish to use QuickPrint for Colour Management.

Tab 2 - Paths

Database Location:
This must be pointed towards the Quickprint.db file you have created. Please click on “choose” and navigate your way to the QuickPrint folder that file is saved in.

Operator Table Location:
This text file can be edited to include the name of the QuickPrint Operator in all files but it is not necessary for you to do so. The file will be located on your hard drive in the System > preferences folder by default under OS9 or User > Library under OSX.

Accept Location:
If you are using PageStore this will be PageStore > Outgoing > PSTmp > QPDropbox. If you are using Pagestore Online it will be QuickPrint > In.

Distill Location:
This location should be the “watched folder” of Adobe Acrobat Distiller. If you are using PageStore this will be PageStore > Workspace > Working > In. If you are using PageStore Online it will be QuickPrint > In.

Click on “set” to commit these changes to QuickPrint.

Tab 3 - Database

Proxy:
If you use an HTTP proxy (or similar) to connect to the internet you must enter in the IP address and port number in this field so that QuickPrint can access new QuickPrint databases. If you do not have a proxy connection leave it blank. Your proxy IP address should be in your Internet Explorer preferences settings under “proxies”.
