How do I create a PDF using QuickPrint?
Step 1
Launch your source application which now
has the QuickPrint extension installed. The words “QuickPrint” will
appear in the menu bar as an extra pull down menu or as a floating
palette.
Step 2
Open the file you would like to transmit.
Make sure that all your Postscript fonts are loaded and all images
are linked correctly. Your file will not QuickPrint successfully
if you do not do this.
Step 3
Select the bounding box of the ad. This
box must be the trim size if your ad. Do not select anything in the
case of a full page ad with a bleed where the document is the correct
size.
Step 4
Go to the menu bar QuickPrint > Job Details/Export.
You will see a Job Details window.
Step 5
The cursor will appear in the publication
field. Begin typing the name of your destination publication into
the publication field. QuickPrint will narrow down the options automatically
based on the letters you type.
For example: Type “gou” in the publication field. The window on
the right shows all publications with “gou” in their title: Gourmet
Traveller,Gourmet Wine Traveller and Goulburn Post. This feature helps you
to quickly and easily find the publication you are looking for. The Country
and Publisher fields will be automatically filled in once you have chosen
a publication.
Step 6
QuickPrint will display all specification
options in the window on the right. These settings are specified
by the Publisher and cannot be changed.
Continue using the “Australia Gourmet Traveller”ad
as an example;
Double click on the words “Australian Gourmet Traveller” on
the right hand side. By doing this you are letting QuickPrint know
that is the
publication you require. The specification options for Australian Gourmet
Traveller will appear on the right hand side. The publisher and
country will be automatically
loaded.
Step 7
Choose the section you want the ad to go
into. In the case of Australian Gourmet Traveller you will only
have a main section. A newspaper might have several such as “news”, “classifieds”etc.
Step 8
Choose the style or colour space you require.
Is your ad full colour?Choose process. Is your ad mono?Choose mono.
You will only have the option to choose what the publication will
accept. Again, you must double click on the option.
Step 9
Choose the format of your file. You may
have other options in this field but if you want to send it using
PageStore Online you must choose PDF. or PC EPS.
Please note: If PDF or PCEPS does not appear in this field then you cannot
send your ad to that publisher using PageStore Online.
Step 10
Choose spot colour if necessary. if you
have chosen a true spot colour style or a spot as process style,
you must choose what that spot colour is called at this point. Eg
News Limited have a set of six spot colours called NewsColours that
need to be chosen at this point. You will not have an option to choose
spot colour at this point if your ad is process in style.
Step 11
Choose the size of the ad. Australian Gourmet
Traveller will have several options including: full page, 1/3 page
vertical etc. A newspaper will generally have number of columns in
this fields; eg 2 columns, 3 columns etc. The width will be automatically
generated for both the fixed ad sizes of magazines and the columnar
sizes of newspapers. The depth will be fixed for a magazine ad but
will need to be entered in by you for a newspaper in the following
field.
Step 12
Choose your depth if your publication requires
it. In the case of Australian Gourmet Traveller both the depth
and width of the ad should be fixed. There will also be an automatic
bleed allowance made for these files. “Floating ads” or
newspaper ads do not required bleed.
Step 13
Click on Export. QuickPrint will look at
your file and check to make sure it matches the specifications of
the publishers. It will check the size is correct, the fonts are
all Postscript and loaded, the images are of the right resolution
for that publisher, etc.
Step 14
The file is checked against the Publishers’ Database.
You will get a QuickPrint summary window warning you about potential
problems or giving you “faults”which will prevent you
from continuing. Click
here for further explanations of QuickPrint faults and warnings and
how to solve them.
Step 15
Once you are happy to proceed you must
click on the “Accept”button.
Step 16
QuickPrint will create an EPS which will
be saved into the Distill accept location. Go
to Setting Up your QuickPrint preferences for more information. Using
a watched folder work flow, all you will need to do is launch Adobe
Acrobat Distiller, make sure the Quickcut job option
is chosen and the PDF will be automatically created. Go
to Setting up a Watched Folder for PageStore or Setting
up a Watched Folder for PageStore Online for more information.
Step 17
If you are using PageStore to transmit
the ad will automatically appear in PageStore, providing the standard
watched folder workflow is in place. Click
here for for further information on Setting up PageStore.
If you are using PageStore Online the file will go into the Out folder inside
your Watched folder. You will need to enter PageStore Online and browse for
the file from there. Click here for more information
on setting up PageStore Online.
